Sharing the RVshare Experience

Sharing the RVshare Experience

This past holiday season, Colan and I were fortunate enough to host Thanksgiving and Christmas from the road (add that to the list of things I never thought I’d say in this lifetime). We had his parents for Thanksgiving and mine for Christmas and New Year, and RVshare made it possible. If you aren’t familiar with the company yet, think of it as Airbnb and VRBO’s nomadic, adventure-loving (commitment-phobe?) friend. Instead of traditional brick-and-mortar accommodations, RVs of all kinds are available for rent.

We chose to have rigs delivered and set up on-site for our parents. The rig owner handles everything related to delivery and setup (Merry Christmas to us!). And then when it’s time? All our parents had to do was pack up and get out. (And in my mom’s case, check and recheck and recheck that she got everything. Don’t forget that out-of-the-way, never-even-opened drawer! Check it all again. Now send in the daughter to do the same.)

We loved having everyone close, but not toooo close. It felt special, like we were on our own little adventure, and it allowed me (selfishly) to do one of my favorite things in the world— host people I love. And for older parents like ours? Seeing them so active, going in and out of a fifth-wheel regularly (those stairs are no joke!), walking around our beloved Sun Outdoors Islamorada Resort, taking advantage of the pool, the activities, the gym, the socializing— it was the best present we could get. We even walked to nearby restaurants! Considering they were all in from bitterly cold suburbs with zero walkability, it felt like magic.

I am obsessed with getting other family and friends to meet us on the road and dip their toes in nomadic life. Our risk-averse (but trusting, hope-that-keeps-holding-true-fingers-crossed) parents guinea-pigged for us and lived to tell the tale, so our younger (presumably more able-bodied, more adventurous) loved ones should have no excuses. There’s an option that’s bound to appeal. And our parents? We’ve already booked our sites for 2025 and are considering exploring motorcoach options (maybe we can get the elders to be part-timers yet!) They all immensely enjoyed the experience and THRIVED. We like them and want ‘em to be around forever. Tall order, I know, but I’m thinking RVshare can help.

Hope to see you out there! - CL
