Tuskegee National Forest

Overview

There’s something for everyone in this secluded forest near Auburn and Tuskegee Universities. A good starting point for your trip through the Forest is The Bartram National Recreation Trail. The 8.5 mile trail can be hiked in one day. The trail is open year-round, but spring and fall offer the most pleasant weather conditions. Trail hikers can see a wide variety of wild flowers and flowering trees, including dogwood and magnolias. The Tuskegee also offers Pleasant Hill Trail, a shorter 4-mile trail open to hikers, campers, and bicyclists. It meanders through mixed groves of pines and hardwoods so expect to see woodland songbirds. Another must stop is Taska Recreation Area, part of the Black Belt Nature and Heritage Trail. It has picnic tables, grills, and an interpretive kiosk and is open year-round and offers facilities for the physically challenged.
