Campground in Arkansas
Forty-acre Lake Bennett, located in the center of 400-acre Woolly Hollow State Park, was named for Dr. Hugh H. Bennett, first director of the U.S. Soil Conservation Service. Constructed in 1935 by the Civilian Conservation Corps and Works Progress Administration, Lake Bennett was the first Soil Conservation System watershed project in the United States built for the purpose of making scientific studies of the effects of water run-off, silt and erosion control from a specific watershed. Today it serves as a popular recreation lake for swimming, boating, camping and picnicking. Canoes, pedal boats, fishing boats and motors are available for rent at the state park.
