Overview

ake Overcup Dam is on Overcup Creek in Conway County, Arkansas and is used for fish and wildlife protection purposes. Construction on this Arkansas Game and Fish Commission impoundment was completed in 1963. It is considered one of Arkansas' crappie hot spots and is located north of Morrilton just off I-40. The 1,025-acre lake is a favorite of crappie anglers with 29 percent coming for this particular fish, according Game and Fish surveys. The average crappie weighs about 11 ounces (2/3 pound), though there are larger ones caught. The lake’s daily crappie limit is 20. Fishing can be done from the bank of the mile-long dam or from the earthen jetty at the south end of the lake. Two wheelchair-accessible fishing piers are also available – one adjacent to Overcup Landing on the northeast corner and the other next to the landing off Ark. 95. According to Game and Fish, there are times where fishing around sunken brush piles in deep water near the piers' ends can produce limit stringers of 1- to 2-pound crappie. Much of the best fishing is in brushy, stump-laden waters accessible only by boat. In April, when the spawn is underway, most crappie will be around shoreline cover or in old stump fields scattered around the lake.
